Updated Oct 6, 2026: The October Tox-Away has passed. The next Posey County Tox-Away is Thu Nov 5, 2–6pm at the Mt. Vernon Recycling Center in Mount Vernon, Indiana. The last one of the 2026 season is Thu Dec 3.
Posey County’s clear-out rhythm is a monthly Tox-Away day rather than one big fall weekend. That makes it easy to plan around: two dates are left this year.
Why care + what to do this week
Fall clean-up in Mount Vernon, New Harmony and Poseyville tends to turn up half-empty cans of oil-based paint and stain, old weed killer, pool chemicals and cleaners. None of that belongs in the trash. Box it up this week with lids tight and the original labels on, and plan an after-work drop on Thursday, Nov 5. If that one doesn’t work, Dec 3 is the last chance until the program picks back up in March.

Why care: It’s the district’s after-work drop-off window for household chemicals that shouldn’t go in the curbside can.
This week: Gather what you have and keep it in original containers. Accepted: household cleaners; oil-based paints and solvents; pool chemicals; mercury-containing items; pesticides, insecticides and herbicides. Open to households, at the Mt. Vernon Recycling Center.
Season’s last Tox-Away · Mount Vernon IN · Thu Dec 3, 2026 · 2–6pm
Why care: Tox-Away runs the first Thursday of each month, March through December, so there are none in January or February.
This week: If Nov 5 is a tough day for you, put Dec 3 on the calendar now. Same site, same hours.
