Fall clear-out in Vanderburgh County comes down to two Saturday mornings at the former Roberts Stadium lot: Tox-Away Day with tire recycling on Sat Oct 31, then electronics recycling on Sat Nov 14. Both run 8am to noon for Vanderburgh County households. In between, Evansville’s free heavy-trash pickups are open through October.
Why care + what to do this week
Start a garage shelf now for oil-based paint, solvents, pesticides, motor oil, old batteries and spare tires, so it’s ready to load on Oct 31. Set a second pile aside for the old TV, laptop and printer for Nov 14. If a couch, mattress or appliance is leaving this fall and you’re a City of Evansville trash customer, book that heavy-trash pickup in October, before leaf season pauses the service in November.

Accepted, per the Solid Waste District: oil-based paint, solvents and thinners, pesticides and herbicides, household cleaners and chemicals, motor oil and filters, antifreeze, gasoline, auto batteries and fluids, rechargeable batteries, aerosol cans, pool chemicals, propane tanks, smoke detectors, fluorescent bulbs, fire extinguishers, thermometers and mercury, glues and adhesives, e-cigarettes and medicines (no controlled substances).
Not accepted: latex paint, appliances, electronics, and commercial, industrial, infectious or radioactive waste, explosives or ammunition.
Tires: automobile and light-truck tires only, with rims removed. No semi or tractor tires, and no tires from businesses.
Vanderburgh County households only, no businesses.
Why care: This is the district’s fall Tox-Away, and the tire collection held with it is the only one on the 2026 schedule. These are the things that shouldn’t ride the curb.
This week: Gather the jugs and cans in one spot, and pull the rims off any tires. Leftover latex paint doesn’t go to Tox-Away. The district says it can go in the regular trash once it’s dried hard (air-dry it, or stir in kitty litter or sawdust).

Accepted at no charge, per the Solid Waste District: TVs, computers, monitors, printers, hard drives, laptops, fax machines and scanners, cell phones, DVD players, DVR devices, digital cameras, modems, and cables and cords.
Not accepted: copy machines and appliances, including microwaves. Vanderburgh County households only; items from businesses aren’t accepted.
Why care: Electronics aren’t allowed in Evansville heavy trash or at Tox-Away, so this is the fall’s spot for them.
This week: Start the electronics pile now, and back up or wipe old phones and laptops before November.
Heavy trash before leaf season · Evansville (standing service)
City of Evansville residents who pay for trash on their water bill can schedule free heavy-trash pickup as often as every two weeks, one item per pickup (pairs like a mattress and box spring count as one). The service pauses during fall leaf collection, which the city says runs November through mid-December. Apartment complexes, mobile home communities, businesses and county residents aren’t eligible. Electronics, tires and car batteries aren’t taken.
Why care: October is the last open stretch for free bulky pickups this year.
This week: Schedule with Republic Services for a specific day, then set the item where your trash and recycling go the day before.
